Mr. Woodrow Mott

Woodrow Mott, 94 of Elizabethtown, IL passed peacefully at 3:00 am, Friday, March 2, 2018 at Hardin County Hospital, Rosiclare, IL. He was born on April 10, 1923 in Elizabethtown to the late Wiley and Nellie Banks Mott. Surviving are his daughters Mary Ann (Bill) Bebout of Rosiclare; Lynda (Bob) Schutt of Elizabethtown; granddaughter Kim (Mike) Hermann of Decatur, IL; grandsons Heath (Rosilyn) Schutt of Shelbyville, IL; Jared (Angie) Schutt of Corydon, KY; Kyle (Andrea) Bebout of Rosiclare, IL; six great-grandchildren Chris and Caleb Hermann; Kyleigh and Walker Bebout; Brook and Briley Schutt. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and special friends Thelma Austin, Kasi Austin and Jackie Dutton. June 5, 1943 Woodrow married his childhood sweetheart Wilma Reed who proceeded him in death in April 1987. He was also proceeded in death by his parents Wiley and Nellie Mott; brothers John Mott and Tom Mott; sisters Eula Mae Ledbetter, Geneva Ralph, Wanda Flynn and two sisters Beulah and Verbie who died in early childhood. As a youngster he spent three and one-half years in St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where he was cared for and learned to make friends. Woodrow began his career underground at Hillside Mines in 1942 at the age of 19, then on to Ozark Mahoning Mill for 37 years where he was well known as an excellent heavy equipment operator. All those who he worked with loved and respected his work ethics, his honesty and someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Woodrow was saved in 1950 at Keeling Hill Church. He was ordained as Deacon at the General Baptist Church, Elizabethtown in September 1983. He joined the First Baptist Church Elizabethtown in 1997 and still attended services regularly until his passing. Woody made lifelong friends with all who knew him at the restaurants, banks, Golden Circle and local businesses. Everyone went out of their way to help him along in life. Woody will be missed by all who knew and loved him so much.
