Shirley Mae Crider, 85, of Cave-In-Rock, IL was born into eternal life on May 24, 2020.
Shirley was born May 2, 1935 in Fairfield, IL to Wayne and Iva (Farmer) Cox. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1953. Shirley spent many years living in Fairfield where she and her previous husband raised their family. She worked for Airtex, Wayne County Soil Conservation Service and Glennon Transport, in addition to volunteering at Fairfield Community Hospital and attending Ellen Moore Methodist Church. In 1976 Shirley married D.F. "Dude" Crider and moved to Cottage Hills, IL where they lived until he retired. They moved to Cave-In-Rock, IL, spending their retirement years living on the banks of the Ohio River, enjoying small town river life and entertaining family and friends who visited often to enjoy their little slice of Heaven with them. In addition to hosting frequent visitors, Shirley made time to visit and care for her many friends and neighbors. She and Dude enjoyed many trips and vacations during their retirement years. Shirley was also an active member and volunteer in her local church community.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by those who knew her as a kind, caring soul who loved people and hearing their stories. Everyone remembers her for her sweet smile, gentle nature and a heart of gold.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 44 years, D.F. "Dude" Crider; children, Bradley (Melissa) Reed of Brownsburg, IN and Randy Reed of Fairfield, IL; step children, Phil Crider, Rhonda Scheeler and Janice Murphy; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings, Mildred (Midge) Tice, Wayne (Pete) Cox, Jr., Marjorie "Margie" Shoultz, Bessie "Betts" Morris, Mary Short and Charlene Cox.
Private graveside services will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Hardin County Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
