Richard Hurford

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Richard Glen Hurford, who left this world on February 4th, 2025 at the age of 57. Born on July 25, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, Richard spent most of his life in Elizabethtown, Illinois, where he built a life filled with hard work, love and generosity.

Richard spent most of his life working as a coal miner, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and resilience. He took great pride in his work and carried those same values into every aspect of his life. Though he had a tough exterior, he had an incredibly kind and giving heart. He believed in helping others without hesitation, always willing to give—even if he had little to spare.

Richard deeply admired his father, Roy Hurford, who was not only his role model but also his best friend until the day Roy passed. That bond shaped the man Richard became—strong, hardworking, and always there for the people he loved.

Richard had a deep love for the outdoors. Before his health declined, he found joy and peace in hunting and fishing, activities that connected him to nature. At home, he was an excellent cook, known especially for his legendary homemade pizzas. Above all, he cherished time with his grandchildren, Kianna and Kinsley. Whether he was playfully teasing them, making them laugh, or simply enjoying their company, they were the light of his life.

Richard was preceded in death by his loving parents, JoReta and Roy Hurford. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tricinda and Michael Milligan; his beloved grandchildren, Kianna and Kinsley Milligan; and his longtime companion, Mandy Woods. His family and friends will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Services are scheduled for 1 PM Friday February 7, 2025 at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL with interment in Empire Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10 AM until service time Friday at the funeral home.
