Raymond B. Zilvitis passed away on Monday January 8, 2024 at Rosiclare Nursing and Rehab. He was born on April 15, 1943 to Bruno and Julia Zilvitis in Chicago, IL. He was a United States Army Veteran and served as an MP while stationed in Germany.
He retired from Union Wadding Company in Chicago, IL and upon relocating to Elizabethtown, IL , he was employed as a bus driver for Hardin County Mass Transit.
Raymond had a lifelong interest in trains which led him to become a member of the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, Wisconsin. He spent numerous weekends volunteering to help whenever he was needed. Raymond was also a member of the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, IL.
In addition, he volunteered with the Hardin County EMA and assisted in many emergencies. He was an active member of the Hardin County American Legion and served as a member of the Honor Guard for Veterans.
Survivors include his sister, Eileen Taylor and brother-in-law, Donald Taylor of Las Vegas, NV. Also a niece, Melissa Wikler of Bend, Oregon and nephew, Andrew Trader of Las Vegas, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Julia Zilvitis and sister, Sharon Zilvitis.
Services are scheduled for 1 PM Friday January 12, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rosiclare, IL with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 AM until 12:40 PM at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL.
