Myona Ruth Rutherford, 89, formerly of Cave-In-Rock, IL died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Stokes County Nursing Home in Danbury, N.C.
She was born July 3, 1923 in Hardin County, IL to Joseph Franklin and Ollie L. Lowry and was the last to survive of 9 children. She was a member of Buena Vista Community Church of Harrisburg, IL, where she was a very active member and Sunday School Teacher whil residing in IL. She was very family oriented and loved her family; brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren. Mrs. Rutherford loved to play guitar, piano and sing and was an active and fun loving lady as long as her health allowed. During WWII she was a "Rosie the Riveter", building bombers a Willow Run Airport in Michigan, doing her part in the war effort.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 PM Monday, Novemer 12, 2012 at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-In-Rock, IL. A graveside service will follow immediately at Cave Hill Cemetery in Cave-In-Rock with Rev. G.E. Coultas officiating.
Surviving are her 2 children, Sharon Nelson and husband Michael of Walnut Cove, N.C. and Walter Joseph Rutherford of Kernersville, N.C.; 3 grandchildren, David (Diane) Nelson of New York, John (Holly) Nelson of Oak Ridge, N.C., Chris Brees of Michigan and numerous great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Walter C. Rutherford; parents; 4 sisters, Florence Rosella Lowry, Belva Lowry, Thelma Lowry and Eula W. Lowry; 4 brothers, Lawrence Lowry, James Jack Lowry, Mansel R. Lowry and John L. Lowry.
