Mildred (Mille) N. Reed, 84, passed away peacefully Monday morning at home in Elizabethtown. One of seven children, Millie was born to the late Ernest and Tamar Oxford Lowry of Cave-In-Rock on December 28, 1928.
On October 14, 1945 she married and is survived by husband A. C. Reed. Millie and A. C. are lifelong residents of Hardin County.
She is survived by four children: Lisa Walker of Jupiter, Florida; Gary and Susan of Franklin, Kentucky; Pat Davenport of Harrisburg, IL.; and Richard and Janis of Carterville, IL. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Marian of Cadott, Wisconsin; Cort of Chicago, IL.; Wesley of Denver, CO.; Taylor of Carterville, IL.; Andrew and Alisha of Anchorage, AK.; Mika of Carterville, IL.; Audrey of Jupiter, FL.; and Autumn of Springfield, MO.; a sister, Billie of Metropolis, IL. And several nieces and nephews.
Millie was a homemaker with a keen interest in baking. She maintained her own unique system of scoring deserts. She played both guitar and piano. Throughout the years she maintained an interest in music, especially the ear of Big Band and the genres of jazz and Boogie Woogie, the latter of which she never tired.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Tamar; three brothers: Weldon (Dony), Gaylon (Skeet), Lowell (Morse) and two sisters: Monell and Melva.
She was a member of Peter’s Creek Baptist Church.

Hardin County Funeral Services, Cox Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Wednesday September 18, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be private, for family only, at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday September 19, 2013.
Millie’s body will rest at the family plot at Empire Cemetery in Elizabethtown until the Day of Resurrection.
