Melba Jean Sheldon

Melba Jean Sheldon, 78, of Elizabethtown, IL went on to be with the Lord on August 11, 2024 at her home. She was a member of the Cave-In-Rock Methodist Church in Cave-In-Rock, IL. Melba was the Vice President of the Hardin County Senior Citizens Council where she served for many years. She was a very active member and participated in all the volunteer work for the fundraisers. She worked many hours helping do whatever was needed and loved being involved and around people. Melba loved crafting, crocheting, playing bingo and spending time with family and friends.

Melba was born on September 6, 1945 and was one of 5 children. She graduated from Cave-In-Rock High School in 1963. Melba was united in marriage to Bertis Sheldon of Rosiclare, IL in 1970 and to this union one daughter was born, Samantha Lacy (Matthew) of Fairview Heights, IL. Other survivors include 2 grandchildren that she was very proud of, Kaitlyn Lacy (Austin McDonnell) of Ottawa, KS and Brandon Lacy (Genna Haas) of Fairview Heights, IL; siblings, Barbara Hohimer of Cave-In-Rock, IL, Elizabeth Gee of Harrisburg, IL and Gary Boyd (Rose) of Roxana, IL and several nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Bertis Sheldon; parents, Gene and Mary Boyd; sister, Dorthy Maxine Boyd; sister-in-law, Kay Taylor and brother-in-law, Leo Hohimer.

Services are scheduled for 1 PM Saturday August 17, 2024 at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL with interment in Peters Creek Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 11 AM until funeral time Saturday at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Cave-In-Rock Methodist Church or to the Hardin County Senior Citizens Council.
