Martin T. Humm, 93, of Rosiclare, IL passed away at 12:00 P.M. Thursday February 19, 2015, at the Rosiclare Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born on the family farm near Eichorn, IL on July 3, 1921. He was one of ten children born to George and Margaret Eichorn Humm. In 1943, Martin married Pauline Bayne who preceded him in death in 2009 at the age of 89. They were married for over 66 years.
Martin is survived by one son, Michael and wife Maryl of Clifton, VA. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Spencer Humm of Tampa, FL.; Katherine Danziger and husband Steven of Bristow, VA, and Martin L. Humm of Centreville, VA; two great gransons: Miles and James Danziger of Bristow, VA; one brother, Carl and one sister, Martha Hamp.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, and by six brothers: Paul, Louis, Vincent, Boniface, Christopher, Leonard and one sister, Theresa.
Martin lived a life of honesty and hard work. He worked as a carpenter for several mining companies in the county. He was also active in local politics and served as the Democrat County Chairman for over 30 years. He was recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives by the Honorable Glenn Poshard for his service to the community.
He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church from birth to death. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Hardin County Funeral Services, Cox Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday March 14, 2015 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Elizabethtown, IL,. with burial immediately following at Saint Joseph Cemetery. Father Abraham Adejoh will officiate. The family will receive visitors on Friday March 13, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Cox Funeral Home. Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.
