Lawrence Frederick "Larry" Thornton, Jr. of Elizabethtown, IL died Friday March 4, 2022 at Hardin County General Hospital. He was 52 years and 8 days old.
Larry was born on February 24, 1970 in Gary , IN to Lawrence Frederick Thornton and Carol Smith Thornton.
Larry was a certified welder, a licensed electrician and a motor inspector at U.S. Steel in Gary, IN. He was a jack of all trades and later moved to Elizabethtown, IL where he loved to live for the last 20 years of his life.
He loved to fish and hunt until his health started getting bad. Larry definitely loved his children and grandkids and all of his family with everything in him. He let them know this and he would try to help anyone who needed it and was a very kind and meek person.
On December 26, 1997 he married Rachel Spurr in Crown Point, IN and she was his best friend and love of his life till death do us part. Larry and Rachel both had 3 boys of their own when they married, which gave them 6 sons, Cody Spurr, Dusten Spurr, Kyle Spurr, Lawrence Thornton III, David Thornton and Zachary Thornton. Larry and Rachel adopted their grandson, Braden Thornton and are raising him. They had no children born from this union. They also had 16 grandchildren, Rachelle Allen, Lisa Fields, Jayden Allen, Izzabella Spurr, Elijah Spurr, Mikayla Spurr and Alysa Spurr all of Cave-In-Rock, IL, James Spurr of New Haven, IL, Tynslee Fricker of Golconda, IL, Samuel Spurr of Alton, IL, Miguel Gomez of Herrin, IL, Jocelynn Sloan, Hazel Thornton and Riley Thornton of Rosiclare, IL and Brennan Thornton of Missouri. Larry is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Carol and Jim Price; sisters, Julissa Lopez Davis, Christina Perez, JoAnn Thornton and Lisa (Wade) Clemmons all of Indiana; brother, Richard (Mary) Thornton of Rensselaer, IN; 3 stepsisters, Ruby Winters and Edith (Doug) Tanner of Equality, IL and Penny Price of Eldorado, IL.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Frederick Thornton III; grandfather, Lawrence Oliver Thornton and grandparents, Robert and Rosemary Smith.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1 PM Friday March 11, 2022 at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL. The family will receive visitors from11 AM until service time.
