Jay T. Douglas, 92, of Eldorado, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Jay was born on September 27, 1925 to the late Hansel (Whitey) Douglas and Thelma (Lowry) Douglas.
He grew up in Cave-In-Rock and married his high school sweetheart, Easter L. Millikan, just prior to going into the U.S. Army and World War II.
Easter is currently residing at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Jay was in the European Theater from 1944-1946, as an expert sharp shooter for the Army. He was in the Battle of the Bulge.
When Jay returned from the war he worked and went to school in Detroit, earning an Associate of Interior Design degree that launched him into the furniture business. Jay was an owner of Eldorado Furniture, with the help of his beloved wife, Easter, for 20-plus years.
Jay T. was a proud business man. He was on the Eldorado School Board, was member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Eldorado Loins Club, he attended the First Baptist Church of Eldorado and he was an avid golfer.
Jay T. (Papaw) was a great storyteller. He enjoyed and was activity involved with his grandchildren.
Jay is survived by his wife, Easter; 2 sons: Gary Douglas and David Douglas; 2 daughter-in-laws: Janie Douglas and Billie Marie Salfen Douglas; niece: Brenda Justice; and his brother, Jerry Douglas. There are 6 grandchildren: Jamie Nicole (Brandon) Gerald, Jason (April) Douglas, Leah (Leyah) Douglas, Jennifer Genet Ruble, Leah Genet and Alicia Jackson. There are 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jay id preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Jim Douglas, Bob Douglas, Velma Skelton and Charles Douglas.
A memorial service will be held from 12:30-2;30 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare. Friends are asked to donate in Jay’s name to their favorite charities.
