Gordon Ray McDowell, 87, of Mt. Vernon, IL formerly of Cave-in-Rock, IL died Wednesday at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was a Army Veteran of WWII and a member of Lone Oak Church of Christ.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce McDowell of Mt. Vernon, IL; sons, Mitch (Shelley) McDowell of Mt. Vernon, IL and Mike (Ronda) McDowell of Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Phyllis (Max) Frailey of San Antonio, TX and Cindy (Kerry) Maxam of Benton, KY; brother, Gathel McDowell of Marion, IL; sister, Veldine Riggs of Marion, IL; 8 grandchildren, Stephanie Williams of San Antonio, TX, Hannah, Elisha and Grace McDowell all of Mt. Vernon, IL, Emily Marek and Brandon McDowell of Phoenix, AZ, Alex Maxam of Nashville, TN and Andrew Maxam of San Antonio, TX; 2 great grandchildren, Max and Elizabeth Williams of San Antonio, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manford and Mildred McDowell and sister, Frances Warren.
Services are scheduled for 1 PM Saturday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock, IL with interment in Cave Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 11 AM until service time at the funeral home.
