Glen Leo Dutton, 79 of Cave in Rock, IL went on to be with the Lord August 07, 2024 at his home. He was a lifelong Member of the First Baptist Church of Cave in Rock, where he still holds the Sunday School Perfect Attendance Record of 13 years. His love for the Lord was only matched by his love for his family and friends. Glen was always eager to help anyone in need.Glen was born in Cave in Rock, IL on October 7, 1944 to the late Densel and Lucille (Palmer) Dutton. He was one of six children. He attended Cave in Rock grade school and high  school, where he graduated in 1963.In November of 1961, Glen started dating his high schoolsweetheart, Janice Fae Lane. On September 26, 1964 they were married at the First Baptist Church of Cave in Rock. Janice truly was the love of his life. They celebrated 59 wonderful years of marriage together. Through the years, they enjoyed traveling-together and often with their good friends. They shared a beautiful home that he and his sons built, where Janice was incharge of the inside, and Glen the outside. He took pride in mowing the yard- he loved his XMark. He loved putting up asmany Christmas lights as he could, and proudly displayed several first place trophies. He was also a devoted St. Louis Cardinals Fan.Glen and Janice had three children- Janet Lynn (Dutton) Moore,Michael Glen Dutton, and Bradley Lane Dutton. He dedicated his life to provide for them and make their lives better. He was blessed with two special Daughter-in-Laws Michelle Dutton,and Monica Dutton.Glen was most proud of his grandchildren- Brittany (Dutton)and Gusten Wallace, Courtney (Dutton) English, Dylan Moore,Andrew Dutton, Mackenzie Dutton (Austin Smith), Allexys Dutton, and Brandon Dutton. And great-grandchildren – HarveyWallace,Logan English, Baylor Wallace, Lydia English, and Evitt Wallace. Glen’s family was his pride and joy. One of his greatest joys was following his grandchildren and great grandchildren in whatever sports or activities they participated in. He had an extensive collection of t-shirts he loved to wear to support and cheer for his favorite kids. He also enjoyed taking his grandchildren for four-wheeler rides, pecan picking, andwatching Popeye with them.In 1964 Glen worked as a lab technician at Minerva Mine Company. In 1965, he and Janice bought a bright red 1965Pontiac GTO that they thoroughly enjoyed and have many fond memories of. He later went to work for Austin Brothers,building homes in Pattonville. He did carpentry work all throughout the county. In 1973 he joined the Carpenters Union Local 640, where he immediately became a Journeyman Carpenter. With the Carpenters Union, he worked on Dog Island Dam project, drove piling, and was the carpenter foreman over the construction of Hardin County K-12 School. He started working for Geupel Demars Cooperation in 1984 as a carpenter foreman on the Shawnee Correctional Center in Vienna, IL.Glen continued to work for the Demars Cooperation as a superintendent for the next 12 years, constructing prisons and county jails in Illinois, Ohio, Kansas, New York, and Texas. He passed along his talent and work ethic to his sons, Mike and Brad, who worked alongside of him for years. He retired, bu tnever truly quit doing carpentry work, always finding someone to help, or something to work on at home.Glen cared for his community and worked hard to improve it, he served as fire Chief of Cave in Rock for 10 years and built a fire department over 20 members strong. He also served as Village Trustee for Cave in Rock 8 years and then as Mayor for another eight years. He had love and compassion for his community and worked diligently on it acquiring over one million dollars in grant money that produced projects such as; a new fire truck,new Cave in Rock Police Dept. squad car, the replacement of the entire water system in Cave in Rock, construction of a playground and campground on Cave in Rock’s riverfront. the construction of a visitors center and the resurfacing of every road and alley in Cave in Rock. He also worked as a First Responder in Cave in Rock area for 5 years, all from the love he had for the people in his community.Glen was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. He served in all of the seats of the lodge and chapter.Glen is survived by his wife Janice, their children,grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, his brother Harold(Betty) Dutton, and sister-in-laws Jackie Dutton and TeresaDutton.He is preceded in death by his parents, Densel and Lucille Dutton, sister Wilma Dutton, brothers Larry Dale Dutton, Terry Wayne Dutton, Raymond Dutton, and special friends Abby and Becky Long.Glen was deeply loved by all of his family and friends. He will truly be missed.

Services are scheduled for 1 PM Tuesday August 13, 2024 at Cave-In-Rock First Baptist Church with interment in Cave Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-8 PM Monday August 12, 2024 with Masonic Rites held at 7pm at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL and from 11 AM until service time Tuesday at the church.
