Galen Dalton departed from this life at the age of 81 on January 13, 2018, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, Illinois. He was a resident of Galatia, Illinois.
Galen was born August 25. 1936, in Rosiclare, Illinois, the third son of Charles Menter Dalton and Addie (Davis) Dalton. He spent most of his life in Illinois, living in Rosiclare, Oak Lawn, Grand Tower, Fairfield, Iuka, Harrisburg, and Galatia. He was a graduate of SIU with a Specialist Degree.
Galen married Mary Alma (Hobbs) Dalton of Cave-In-Rock, on September 12, 1958. Galen served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1964. He served in the Illinois public school system as a teacher, principal, and superintendent for 36 years. During his retirement, he taught part-time at Frontier Community College in Fairfield, for 12 years and as a substitute teacher. Galen placed his whole trust in Jesus of Nazareth, Son of God, and was His obedient servant from his baptism in August 1948 until his passing. He preached the gospel of Christ from 1965-2013, often preaching for two congregations concurrently.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Dalton; two Children: Mary Gale Adkisson of Thompsonville, Il. and Stephanie Orozco of Aurora, Il.; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Junior Dalton and Paul Dean Dalton, and his son, Robert Edward Dalton.
A viewing for Galen will be held at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. Caleb Adkisson of Saint Petersburg, Fl. will officiate. The family will lay Galen to rest at Cave Hill cemetery in a private committal service following the funeral.
