Mrs. Dorothy Barnerd, 97, of Elizabethtown, IL. passed away at her home on Sunday, October 18, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 3, 1918 to the late Thomas A. Angleton and Ida Jenkins Angleton in the Yellow Springs community of Hardin County. On February 2, 1935, she married the love of her life, Phillip Troy Barnerd. They would share 72 years of marriage together. Mrs. Barnerd was a homemaker and a loving mother. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Bethel College in Mickenzie, Tennessee and taught school for 21 years in the Hardin County School District before retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Peter’s Creek Baptist Church and for many years served on the Hardin County Election Board. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the piano and organ.
She is survived by her daughter; Nancy and Taze Lofton of Henderson, Tenn; Son: Thomas H. and Sandy Barnerd of Elizabethtown, IL.; grandchildren: Kermit and Debbie Lofton Jr., Spence and Julia Lofton, Heather Barnerd, Jennifer and Kevin Fuller; great grandchildren: Cassie and Jordan Dunstan, Gage Fuller, Drew Lofton, Alex Lofton, Spencer Lofton, and Paige Lofton; great great grandson: Thomas “Catlin” Dunstan. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of former students and friends. She also leaves behind her beloved and devoted Persian cat, Morris.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Troy; grandson: Heath Barnerd; brothers: Millard Angleton and Blueford Womack.
A memorial service with Rev. Mark Staton officiating will be held on Sunday October 25, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. to commemorate the lives of both Dorothy and Troy Barnerd. Hardin County Funeral Services, Cox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
