Derrick Eugene Cozart

d. January 1, 2001

Derrick Eugene Cozart
Derrick was gifted to this world on October 18,1965 in Humboldt, TN. He went on to be raised in Marion, KY which was his home. Our Sovereign Father rescued him from a taxing battle with chronic illnesses on the morning of May 13, 2011. Derrick was raised in the tender, loving care of his late father and mother, the beloved Charles and Eva Hill. He was also preceded in death by his parent, James Wallace and Grandmother, Pauletta Hill.

Derrick was a man of God that gave his life to Christ at an early age. As a longtime member of Marion Freewill Baptist, Derrick never passed up an opportunity to share the elaborate and sincere testimony of God’s goodness and of his faith in an unfailing Savior.

While attending high school in Crittenden County, Derrick was known as a formidable force on the football field. His family and others recognize him as the original inspiration for the now three generations of tough and talented defensive linemen that proudly dawn the jersey #74. Following high school, Derrick attended Morehead State University, where he also joined the football program as well as ROTC. In his next station of life Derrick went on to work at Earl C. Clements Job Corps for many years. Following this he was employed at the Eddyville Correctional Institution. While his health and opportunity allowed, Derrick continued to work and provide for his family whom he loved with no limits or reserve. Faith, family, friends, and fellowship were the cornerstones of his life.

Left to cherish his messages and memories are two children- Joseph Brookes and Raven Samone Cozart; a Grandson- Rashuan Cozart; Siblings- Spencer (Geraldine), Jacqueline, Stephon (Heather), David(Nekesha), and Angela; Nicole Brookes; 14 nieces & nephews- Jasmine, Amber, Sydney, Joshua, Jillian, Jessica, Breanna, Stephon Jr., Raymond, Kynedi, Xavier, Zachary, Destiny, Dalen; 5 great-nieces & nephews- JaiBre, Jaylea, Jorian, Amauri & Avery; Paternal Uncles & Aunts Bob(Janice), Bill(Tanya), Betty, Mary(Roy), Carolyn(Richard), and Tony Hill; Maternal Uncles & Aunts- Dorothy Armour, Jimmy(Kathy), Mammie, John Arthur(Susan), Richard Jr.(Ernestine), Robert (Terri), Rev. While all that knew him will forever miss his benevolent heart and unique personality, his place in eternal Glory is greatly appreciated.
