Charles William Walker, 92, of Elizabethtown Il. died on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Hardin County General Hospital. Charles was born on December 23, 1927 in Marion, Ky. the second child of Clarence and Nina Walker was brought to Cave In Rock, Il. as an infant. During his school years he worked after school and weekends at Kaylor’s Café. At the age of 18, Charles returned to Marion, Ky. to work as a core driller for two years, then returned to Cave In Rock to work for B.W. Bates as a core driller for thirteen more years. He married Pauline Pennell in 1948 but never had children. Charles was a veteran, who served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea with the 378th Engineer Combat Battalion. He retired from Ozark Mahoning Co. after 35 years of drilling fluorspar. He was also sent twice to Cowdrey, Colorado to drill spar in the mountains. Charles spent the rest of his life in Hardin County, enjoying mowing his lawn, gardening, fishing, hunting, reading western books and helping other people. He also enjoyed his nieces and nephews as though they were his own.
Charles is survived by his brother: Larry Walker of St. John, IN. and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Pauline walker; parent: Charles Clarence and Nina Walker; brothers: James Walker and Eugene Walker, and sisters: Pat McDowell and Sara Mae Walker.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, Il. with interment at Cave Hill Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 11:00 am until time of service at funeral home. Military Rites will be given at cemetery on Tuesday.
