Carroll "Smitty" Smith, 73, of Newburgh, IN died Tuesday at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, IN.
Smitty was born March 12, 1937 in Livingston County, KY to Otho and Virtue Householder Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Army and member of Second Baptist Church in Marion, Ky. Smitty was part owner and president of Brake Supply Company, retiring in 1986 after 24 years of service. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motor coach and attending NASCAR races. Smitty was an avid Kentucky Basketball fan. He was a devoted colleague and loving husband who will be missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Strong Smith of Newburgh, IN; sister-in-law, Linda Sue Champion of Salem, KY; nephews, Stephen and Scott Champion of Salem, KY and Ricky Belt of Manitou, KY; niece, Misty Roberts of Marion, KY and several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Flossie Crowell.
Services are scheduled for 1 PM Friday at Boone Funeral Home in Evansville, IN with interment in Mapleview Cemetery in Marion, KY. The family will recieve visitors frome3-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call from Noon until 1:50 PM Saturday February 26, 2011 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, KY with graveside services to follow at 2 PM at Mapleview Cemetery.
