Betty Lou Hurford, of Rosiclare, IL., passed away Sunday October 28, 2012 at 7:32 P.M. at the Hardin County General Hospital after a brief illness.
Betty was born on March 5, 1930 to Fowler Curtis, Sr. and Mary (Conrad) Curtis at their home in the Fairview community of Rosiclare.
Betty was a member of the Rosiclare United Methodist Church and served on the Rosiclare Library Board for many years. She was also a member of the Pope-Hardin County Garden Club and a member of the Coffee Girls. She was co-owner of The Flower Basket in Rosiclare in the late 1960's and early 1970's and worked part time at the Hardin County Independent.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Noel Edwin Hurford; and her brother, Fowler Curtis, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Hurford Williams of rural Elizabethtown, and Julia Hurford Smith of Galatia, IL.; two sisters, Linda Curtis Leggens of Harrisburg, Il., and Becky Curtis Brandt of rural Golconda; three granddaughters, Jennifer Rash Lane of Rosiclare, Heather Rash of Rosiclare, and Shannon Roth of Carbondale, IL.; grandson-in-law, Tony Lane; five great grandchildren, Sean and Luke Lane, and Aida, Cazz and Weston Barnard; a sister-in-law, Nell Cox of Harrisburg, IL.; several nieces and nephews.
Hardin County Funeral Services, Cox Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements. Services will be held on Friday November 2 at Rosiclare United Methodist Church and be officiated by Pastor Haley Hausman. Family visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Public visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until services time at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery in Elizabethtown, IL.
