Brenda Ruth Lowery

April 27, 1944 — May 9, 2023

Brenda Ruth Lowery, 79, of Elizabethtown, Illinois passed away on May 9th, 2023 at 5:52 PM at the Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare, Illinois.

Brenda was born on April 27, 1944 in Battle Creek, Michigan. Her parents were Herman and Eva Rufina (Beavers) Scott. Brenda was a twin to Margaret Ann (Scott) Pflaum. Even though both girls shared the same birthday, Brenda was definitely the “big sister” as she always watched over Margaret as the girls grew up.

Brenda married Larry Deon Lowery in August of 1959, in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois. Together this union produced four children: Galen Dean, Kimberly Ann, Larry Dean, and Michael Wayne Lowery. Because of Deon’s military career, the family lived in California, Texas, Oklahoma, and even Germany. Brenda and the children moved back to Hardin County when Larry was deployed to Vietnam where he later died on April 27, 1969, Brenda’s 25th birthday.

Brenda then began a new season in her life as a young widowed mom with four children. God was still watching over her and her family by providing a wonderful man who was willing to love both her and her children unconditionally. In 1971, Brenda married Bob Davis of Cave-In-Rock, Illinois. Together they added one daughter, Shelly Lee Davis to complete the family.

Brenda supported her boys’ interests in basketball and baseball throughout their high school years. She was active in the Parent Teacher Organization. Brenda also organized the annual Frontier Days Beauty Pageant.

Throughout Brenda’s life she worked several part-time jobs which included being a cook, a waitress and a house cleaner. Her most rewarding job was when she entered the medical field.

Early in her life she became a Certified Nursing Assistant working at the Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare, Illinois. Years later she would become an Emergency Medical Technician for the Hardin County Ambulance Service. There she eventually became the coordinator for the county before retiring. She enjoyed having the benefit of serving the community of Hardin County in their most difficult situations.

Brenda’s final job was working as a secretarial assistant for the Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, which later became the Hardin County Funeral Service. There she once again had the opportunity of assisting families of Hardin County in their times of need.

Brenda was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed listening to gospel music, especially the Gaithers. She also found joy in watching old westerns starring her favorite cowboy, John Wayne. Brenda had many pets throughout her life, but her most treasured was a chihuahua named Heidi.
